HOW WE DIFFER
Feeding the soil.
The soil is the farm's foundation. We feed it, protect its life, and let the biology beneath the surface do the growing for us.

01
Taking on board all the scientific information now available with regards to soil, chemicals and our climate, we are striving towards more regenerative farming — rising to the no-dig challenge by using a broad fork to lift and aerate the soil, making use of compost and cover crops to mulch and feed the soil, and crop rotation to stop the build-up of soil-based disease. Our composts and fertilisers are plant based and not amended with any chemicals. Our focus is on feeding the soil and encouraging biodiversity, and we are increasing our understanding of soil health with further education.
02
Soil life consists of micro-organisms and fungi that form healthy relationships with plant roots, helping plants access and absorb nutrients more effectively. It is these micro-organisms and fungi that are destroyed when aggressive digging takes place, leaving stale and lifeless soil in which plants fail to thrive. Worms build permanent channels and do not bother returning if disturbed — their population crashes every time soil is turned or forked. If soil is made liveable for worms, then most of the work is done.
