POINT TO NOTE

A note on our blooms.

Our beautiful British Grown flowers do not have any residual chemicals on them as they are not used in our flower growing methods.  However, a note should be taken that some flowers are known to cause skin irritants to humans and are potentially poisonous to animals.  Our flowers are cut and conditioned to offer the very best vase life but providing the proper after care will ensure they reach this optimum life span.

HOW TO GET THE BEST

Six simple steps to keep them looking their best.

01

Unwrap, re-cut, fresh water.

All of our packaging used for your flowers is biodegradable. Kraft paper, tissue paper, cellophane, boxes, raffia or string can be placed into the re-cycling bin.

Cut the stems on receipt at a 45° angle enabling them to take up more water rather than sitting flat at the bottom of the vessel.

Vessels and water should always be clean and fresh. Bacteria ages the flowers quickly. Your flowers are decomposing from the moment they have been cut.

Any leaves that will sit below the water line should be removed as these will rot aiding bacteria growth.

02

Keep clear of fruit and heat.

Fruits like apples, bananas and tomatoes release an invisible gas called ethylene.

This gas is a natural plant hormone that speeds up ripening and aging.

Many flowers are sensitive to this and therefore will age prematurely if placed nearby.

Heat sources, either direct sunlight or radiator heat can ‘cook’ your flowers and therefore lessen their life.

Transporting your flowers is best done in a cool vehicle and out of sun.

03

Change the water and re-cut.

Change the water daily if you can, give the vase a quick rinse out.  Re-snip the stems at day 3and then again every couple or 3 days.

Cutting the flower stem base removes the decayed part that has been in water and re-opens the plants drinking cells.

04

Snip spent blooms.

When you receive flowers with multiple heads many varieties will continue to open after the first bloom has gone over. Follow the stem down and cut it off at a join.

05

Remove ageing petals.

As your flowers age they will change taking on a new look.   Remove some lower petals, deadhead or cut stems at different lengths.

06

Downsize your vase.

Downsizing your vase will enable you to enjoy your flowers as they shorten with each re-cut.

07

When they are finished.

When your flowers have finally finished place them in the compost bin where they will go on to do good things.

REMINDER

Clean materials, clean water, re-cut, deadhead - and we hope you enjoy them.
